Phuket Tourists Irked by Jet-Ski JJ 'Extra' Payment

 

푸켓여행객들은 제트스키 JJ의 추가지불요구에 진절머리가 나다.

A GROUP of tourists from Malaysia and Singapore have complained about being asked to pay 25,000 baht after overturning two jet-skis off Patong beach at the weekend. 말레이시아와 싱가폴에서 온 한 무리의 여행객들이 주말에 파통비치에서 두대의 제트스키를 전복시킨 후 25,000밧의 지불을 요구한 것에 대해 컴플레인을 했다.

The group eventually handed over 900 Singapore dollars to the jet-ski operators, who were led by Winai ''JJ'' Naiman.

이 사람들은 결국 제트스키회사에게 900달러의 싱가폴달러를 건넸다. 그 제트스키 회사는 Winai ''JJ'' Naiman에 의해

운영되는 곳이다.

Mr Naiman, who manages a group of jet-skis, achieved some notoriety last year in a reality television series, 'Big Trouble in Tourist Thailand,' that continues to air around the world. 제트스키업자인 Mr Naiman은 작년 전세계에 계속해서 방송된 "태국여행자들의 큰 위험"이라는 텔레비젼 리얼리티 방송시리즈에서 악명을 떨쳤다.

Computer procurement specialist Derrick Wong said by telephone from Singapore today that he and 16 friends were on a short holiday on Phuket, and hired four jet-skis for rides in the surf at Patong on Saturday. 컴퓨터 조달 분야의 전문가인 데릭웡은 오늘 싱가폴에서 전화로 말했다. 그와 16명의 친구들은 푸켓에서 짧은 휴일을 즐겼고, 그리고 토요일 파통의 파도타기를 위해 4대의 제트스키를 빌렸다고. 

''Two of the jet-skis overturned,'' Mr Wong said.

"두대의 제트스키가 넘어졌어요"하고 웡은 말했다.

''When they were brought in, the men on the beach demanded 25,000 baht each for them because they said that seawater had gone into the engines,'' Mr Wong said. "그 제트스키들을 가져가면서 비치의 업자들은 그들에게 제트스키 한대당 25,000밧을 요구했습니다. 왜냐하면 그들은 바닷물이 엔진에 들어갔다고 했기 때문입니다."하고 웡은 말했다.

The friends were all former schoolmates from Malaysia.
그 친구들은 모두 말레이시아 출신으로 과거에 학교 동창생들이었다.

''As first-timers, we didn't know what to do,'' Mr Wong said. ''We were shown all the papers that my friend signed.

"우리는 처음 겪은 사람들이었기 때문에 무엇을 해야할 지 몰랐어요"하고 웡은 말했다. "우리는 친구가 서명한 모든 종이들을

봤었죠"

''About 30 minutes later, the man we later learned was JJ came to the beach.''
"약 30분 뒤에, 우리가 나중에 안 그 사람 JJ가 비치로 왔어요"

Eventually, some of the tourists returned to the Baramee Resortel, where the group were staying, and came back with S$900. ''That was all the money we had,'' Mr Wong said. 결국, 몇명의 관광객들이 그들이 머물던 바라미 리조텔로 돌아와서

Mr Wong said he identified the man as JJ after being told by the man that he could ''look me up on the Internet.''

About an hour after the incident, the jet-skis were taken off the beach, Mr Wong said.

''Our holiday was ok except for the jet-ski scam,'' Mr Wong said. ''Most of us won't be going back to Phuket.''

"우리의 휴가는 제트스키 사기를 제외하고는 좋았습니다."라고 웡은 말했다.

우리 모두는 푸켓으로 돌아가지 않을 것입니다.

The group's tour agent came to the beach and advised them to pay ''for safety reasons,'' Mr Wong said.
그 무리의 투어회사는 비치로 와서 그들에게 "안전을 위해 지불"하라고 충고했다고 웡은 말했다.

The President of the Phuket Jet-Ski Federation, Anusorn Salae, said today that it was difficult to comment on the case without knowing whether the jet-skis involved were among the 219 registered for Patong.

푸켓 제트스키 연합의 대표인 Anusorn Salae는  관련된 제트스키들이 파통의 등록된 219대의 제트스키인지 알지 못해 그 경우에 대해 말하기는 어렵다고 오늘 말했다.

Both registered and unregistered jet-skis required riders to sign paperwork, he said. ''Tourists need to make sure that jet-skis are insured,'' he said. 등록된 제트스키와 등록되지 않은 스키들은 둘다 서류에 사인되는 것이 요구되어진다. 그는 "여행자들은 그 제트스키들이 보험을 들었는지 확인할 필요가 있다고 말했다."

''In Patong, some jet-skis are still being allowed to operate without insurance.'' He said insurance did not cover flipping a jet-ski. "파통에서 몇몇 제트스키 업체들은 아직도 보험없이 운영되도록 허락하고 있다" 그는 보험은 지긋지긋한 제트스키문제를 보호할 수 없다고 말했다.

But on Bang Tao beach, where he operates jet-skis, jet-ski users are told that the maximum extra payment for flipping a jet-ski is 3000 baht. 그러나, 그가 제트스키를 운영하는 방타오 비치에서 제트스키 이용자들은 제트스키문제에 대해 최대 3000밧을 내도록 하고 있다고 말했다.

He said a payment beyond that figure might include extra for the downtime of the jet-ski. ''I would like to know whether the jet-skis involved were legal or not,'' he said.그는 상식을 벗어난 지불은 제트스키를 사용하지 못한 것에 대한 별도의 비용을 요청한 것을 포함하고 있다고 말했다.

''While I am the president of the federation, I am not in control of the jet-skis' day-to-day operations in Patong.''

The situation had improved but some jet-ski operators still did not comply or reneged on insurance payments - and there had been no government follow-up, Khun Anusorn said. 그 상황은 단지 몇몇 제트스키업자들이 아직도 보험료 납입을 따르지 않거나 약속을 지키지 않다는 것을 입증안다. 전혀 정부지시를 따르지 않고 있다고  Khun Anusorn 은 말했다.

"Tourists who think they are being scammed should go to the police,'' he said. ''Then we can ensure a fair outcome.''

A spokesperson at the insurance company that holds the jet-ski policies said he was new to the role and would need two weeks to assess the situation. 제트스키에 대한 정책을 담당하는 보험회사의 한 대변인은 그는 그 역할에 대해 낯설어 그는 그 상황을 평가하는데 2주는 필요하다고 말했다.

Last year, dramatic footage of Mr Naiman holding a gun as he asked for money from British marines for a jet-ski he said had been damaged caused a sensation on Phuket when it was screened on British television.

작년, 총을 들고 영국 해군들에게 돈을 요구한  Mr Naiman의 극적인 방송은 영국방송국에서 보여주었을 때 푸켓에 일대 센세이션을 일으키며 피해를 주었다.

The incident and the coverage led to the introduction of a compulsory insurance scheme for Phuket's jet-skis.

그 사고와 매스컴의 보도는 푸켓 제트스키업자들에게 강제 보험 계획의 도입을 이끌어 내었다.

No action was taken against Mr Naiman because he said the incident was playacting for the cameras.

Mr Naiman은 그가 그 사건은 카메라를 위해 연출한 것이라고 말했기 때문에 어떤 처벌도 취해지지 않았다.

 

The makers of the documentary said the footage was genuine.

그 기록영화의 제작자는 그 필름이 진짜라고 말했다.
