The companies

To come here by coach, you have once again the choice of the companies and it is the most economic means. Generally coaches go inside the ferry and leave you directly in Nathon, from where you will be able to ride one of the numerous local taxis for the various towns and beaches or hire your own vehicle.

From Bangkok

If you stay in Bangkok, any travel agency will be capable of selling you a ticket for Samui, going from 250 to 300 baht for the cheapests (on Khao San Road) to 600 baht for a VIP bus containing generally only 24 passengers therefore comfortable, all are air-conditioning, apart if you ride a local coach which stops every time when a person holds the arm out by the roadside.

Route

All the coaches stop one or several times during the route in order to let you eat and go to toilet. VIP buses mainly have their own bathrooms. They travel (almost) all by night. You leave Bangkok between 5.30 and 8 pm and the journey lasts generally 10-12 hours.
Suratthani (administrative centre of the region of the boats departure) is situated about 650 kilometres south of Bangkok.
