The Route: Bangkok to Siem Reap via the Aranyaprathet/Poipet border crossing

You will likely be confronted by a couple of annoyances at the border.

Aranyaprathet, Thailand / Poipet, Cambodia Border Crossing: The Route from Bangkok to Siem Reap

It’s a 465km, 6-9 hour trip from Bangkok to Siem Reap. 방콕에서 시엡리업까지는 465킬로미터로 6-9시간 걸린다.

 

The usual route begins with a 4-5 hour bus or a train ride from Bangkok to Aranyaprathet (‘Aran’), the town on the Thai side of the border, then a short tuk-tuk ride the last 6 km to the border crossing to Poipet Cambodia.

 On the Cambodian side, the road to Siem Reap has been completely repaired and is in excellent condition, requiring only 3 hours to traverse. 캄보디아 국경쪽인 씨엡리업까지 이르는 도로는 완전히 수리되어 차로 여행하기에 최적의 조건으로 단지 3시간정도 소요된다.

 

There are two options in planning an overland trip: 1) buy a package ticket in Bangkok or; 2) put it together yourself.

육로여행을 계획하는데는 두 가지 선택이 있는데 1) 방콕에서 패키지티켓(혹은 조인티넷)을 구입하는 것과 2) 모든 것을 스스로 알아서 하는 것이 있다.

In Bangkok you can buy package tickets from travel agents.

The price ranges from 200-800 baht on Khao Sarn Road and up to 1000 baht on Sukhumvit.

Regardless of the cost of the ticket, most travel agencies are sending customers to the same bus companies.

When you buy your ticket, ask about the type of transportation, especially on the Cambodian side.

You will depart Bangkok between 7AM and 8AM, arriving at the border crossing near Aranyaprathet 4-5 hours later.

1) From Bangkok take a bus or train to Aranyaprathet. 방콕에서 버스나 기차를 타고 아란야쁘라텟까지 가라.

 

Bus: 164-196 baht (first class), 140-155 baht (second class), 4 hours, departing the Northern Bus Terminal (Morchit) hourly from 4AM to 6PM. 버스: 1등버스는 164밧에서 196밧이며, 2등버스는 140밧에서 155밧이다. 오전4시부터 오후6시까지 매시간 북부버스터미널인 모칫역에서 떠나며 4시간 소요된다.

 

Train: 48 baht, 3rd class, 6 hours, departs Hualamphong Station twice daily (5:55AM and 1:05PM).

기차: 3등버스가 48밧이며 6시간 소요된다. 방콕 훨람퐁역에서 매일 2번 오전 5시 55분과 오후1시 5분에 출발한다.

2) From Aranyaprathet, take a moto or tuk-tuk from the bus station to the border for 50 and 60 baht, respectively.

3) Cross the border to Poipet Cambodia. 캄보디아 뽀이펫으로 국경을 건너라.

4) on the Cambodian side, take a free shuttle bus to the transport station.

 From there you have three options for transportation from Poipet through Sisophon and on to Siem Reap: a) Taxi; b) Official Bus; c) Tourist bus. 그 곳으로부터 당신은 뽀이펫으로부터 시소폰을 거쳐 시엡리업으로 가는 3가지 옵션(1:택시,2:공식버스 , 3,여행자버스)을 갖을 수 있다.

a) Taxi: Taxis offer the easiest, fastest, most comfortable, most expensive travel option.

Though the local rate is $25 for a private taxi, tourists usually have to pay $45-$50.

Sometimes taxi drivers wait for passengers just past the Thai immigration station.

These drivers usually offer the lower price ($25-$30), but are unlicensed and of variable reliability.

It’s a 2.5-3 hour ride. Share with other travelers and split the cost. Under no circumstances pay in advance.

c) Package Tourist Buses: These are the same buses that the package ticket holders from Bangkok use.
